The CISF Student Blog is a space for soul-centered meanderings, real stories, reflections on what it means to be a chaplain or CPE student, and the unfolding spiritual journeys of our interns.
As part of your coursework, you are required to submit a weekly blog-style reflection. Selected reflections will be published on the CISF Public Blog to give voice to the lived experience of becoming a chaplain—and to help shape the wider conversation around clinical spiritual care.
These reflections are not the same as what you write for your supervisor or cohort peers. And they are not opportunities to proselytize, promote your personal belief system, or offer instruction. This isn’t about teaching. It’s about wondering. Reflecting. Wrestling honestly in a way that invites others in.
Part of becoming a chaplain is learning how to engage people who are not like you. To meet them with curiosity, humility, and presence. These reflections help you practice that—by writing not just about your experiences, but through a lens that is invitational, human, and spacious.
Write honestly. Write like a chaplain-in-process. Let the page carry your questions, your insights, your wrestlings. Share what it feels like to sit with suffering, what it means to accompany others, and how your own spirit is being shaped in the work.
